Temple vandalized in Delhi. Restrain sharing pics, video to avoid communal tensions

#NonsenseTalkLIVE: Today a cameraman friend of mine sent a few videos of the temple damaged by over 400 goons. I have the footage but deliberately not sharing as such things should not be shared on public platforms. We must initiate to stop communal hatred as once goes out of hand can and will create havoc. I have a certain observations:

1) This was not a communal issue but local fight over parking.
2) I am surprised to hear #media calling the place as #ChandniChowk. The place is in walled city but quite far interior, a place called Hauz Kazi. Calling Chandni Chowk will raise sentiments as all the temples in this place are iconic like the Gauri Shankar Temple, The Jain Temple etc.
3) Not new but has been a tension spot as communal fights take place between the two community.
4) #Television #channels must realize the gravity of the story and prune visuals. Similarly, #print or #digital must check the words before writing the story.
5) This is the work of goons or #fundamentalists. They do not belongvto any religion.
6) In Hindi I heard taking names of communities. Nothing wrong but this will spark #communal tension. The word to describe them is ‘firkaparast’. Explains everything.

These are basic things which needs to understood from within as a small post may spread communal tension. I came across various news organizations are sharing the unedited video with shouts and slogans. Many on social media are even adding comments and reactions with video and photographs. This reminds me in the earlier days, when such footage were aired or shown on television, there used to be a caption – “photographs may be disturbing”. Today, I find this concept has totally gone, channels do not hesitate to show videos or photographs that can have a negative impact on the society.

The crux is we will have to be more careful and not create a situation which may get instigated due to provocative reportage or words in the story.

This is what I felt after watching the video and photographs…Totally straight from the heart and nothing to do with journalism…Yes being a journalist I can assume the chaos it will create if people do not act in a responsible way…
